04.04.03 - Rocketown Records signs George Rowe; Debut slated for September 2003 release.
Rocketown records signs GEORGE ROWE Debut slated for September 2003 release (Franklin, TN… 04/04/03)-Rocketown Records recently announced the signing of pop neo-soul singer/ songwriter George Rowe, whose debut album is slated for a September 2003 release. Rowe was first discovered by legendary producer David Foster (Michael Jackson, Celine Dion) and has recently had his songs cut by Avalon member Janna Long on her solo debut as well as new Word artist Kristy Starling. After growing up in Clayton, New Jersey (a suburb of Philadelphia), Rowe started college at Northeastern Christian College and finished his degree at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. Three years later, he received his law degree from Pepperdine. However, his law career was set aside when he recorded a development project at David Foster’s Chartmaker Studio. Rowe decided to move his family to Nashville to continue his musical pursuits and was recently signed to Rocketown. Rocketown Records President Don Donahue said, “I spent an entire year trying to talk George out of doing a project, not for lack of belief in his amazing talent but for the respect I have for his law degree. George has never met a stranger, and our industry is in for a great surprise when his album hits the streets. Neo soul may be a stretch for Rocketown, but a great writer with a great heart for God and family is the core of who we are.” "My music has a soulful pop flavor similar to Craig David and Brian McKnight," Rowe noted. "I grew up listening to greats like Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson. That necessarily influences my writing, singing and piano-playing - All my life has been music, but I haven’t really had the opportunity to sing, to share my ministry through music. Signing with Rocketown is giving me the opportunity to live my ministry. Music consumes my life. I feel called by God to share what’s in my heart through music. I feel like I'm disobeying God's will if I ignore that." Currently recording in Los Angeles, George Rowe is slated to release his Rocketown Records' debut in September 2003. For more information, see www.georgerowe.com or www.rocketownrecords.com. Grammy Award-winner Michael W. Smith and former Reunion Records A&R chief Don Donahue started Rocketown Records in 1996 with the goal of building a label around a foundation of great songs and a family atmosphere. Since its launch, Rocketown has garnered commercial and critical acclaim with more than 2.5 million units sold, 22 No. 1 songs and nearly 40 Dove Award nominations, including New Artist of the Year nominations for four of the six new artists the label has introduced.
